YWCA is one of a few Special Educational Needs Schools in the Madadeni Township and has been working with Project Zulu since 2017. Located in the heart of Madadeni, the school is a hub of activity teaching core curriculum subjects, life skills and vocational skills embedded in cultural relevance like hospitality and art work.
The school has just over 500 pupils on role ranging from 6 – 21 years of age and supports pupils with a range of learning difficulties and physical impairments.
In partnership with Project Zulu, YWCA have been able to create several sensory rooms specifically tailored to the needs of their students and have received regular professional development for staff about ways in which rooms like this can be utilised for the benefit of their students. YWCA is an inspirational school that is working hard to make the most of the facilities that they have however much like other Project Zulu partner schools, YWCA is in need of more educational and health related resources to enable optimal learning conditions for the children.
