Sithobelumthetho Primary School is where Project Zulu started. We have been working together since 1996 when Ben Knight, Project Zulu Founder and Director, first visited the Madadeni Township. The school has over 800 pupils enrolled catering for Grades R–7.
Thanks to our first Choir Tour in 2013, Sithobelumthetho now has 52 solar panels installed on their school roof; helping to significantly reduce the schools electricity bills and plans to expand their solar system so the school is more self-sustainable with funds from the upcoming 2025 choir tour.
Funds from the 2015 Choir Tour along with support from UWE Bristol and sponsors, The ATLAS Foundation, have enabled the school to develop their unused wasteland into a secure school sportsfield. Completed in August 2021 the field is used by the school for Physical Education lessons, school sports clubs and tournaments and is also the home of the local men’s rugby team, the Madadeni Bears, and is available for community sports clubs to hire.
As with other partner schools, Sithobelumthetho are in need of further educational resources to support their growing student population.
