Happy New Year! This year is set to be full of activity and celebrations for Project Zulu and we can’t wait to show you what we have in store for 2023!
Firstly, we’re delighted to be returning to South Africa in February to set up Township Teaching projects in high schools in Richards Bay with our new partner schools with 4 PGCE Secondary students from UWE Bristol taking part.
After a missed year due to the pandemic, the choir tour is returning this year and the 2023 Project Zulu choir will be arriving in the UK on 20th May where they’ll be touring the South West performing to the public and meeting local schools, while staying with host families. On 9th June the choir will perform at Clifton College chapel, an incredible venue for their finale concert, look out for more details on where to buy tickets soon!
This summer we will return to Madadeni and Dundee townships for August volunteering with 40 students and 15 staff from UWE Bristol volunteering across 8 projects.
This August will also mark the official opening of the much-awaited sports field at Sithobelumthetho Primary School. With funds earned by the 2015 choir matched by Atlas and UWE Bristol, this playing field has been transformed into a wonderful laser levelled, fully irrigated sports field and has become the home of the Madadeni Bears Men’s and Women’s Rugby as well as the hub of Sithobelumthetho school sports activities. If you’d like to see the choir perform this year look out for where they’re performing on our socials as we release this in the coming months.
Finally, this year we're also celebrating 10 years of choir tours and 10 summers of volunteering!
