This year, we were delighted to welcome the wonderfully talented 2023 Choir to the UK in May and June. Children from Jobstown and Mntimande Primary schools wowed audiences with their incredible musical talent and infectious love of music. Across the tour were opportunities for cultural exchange and the choir visited 8 local schools where they led gumboot workshops and were able to experience British school life. Some highlights of the tour included:
-Meeting the cast of the Disney production of the Lion King and performing on the Bristol Hippodrome stage
-Performing at the UWE FET Degree show
-The Finale Concert performed at Clifton College which was our most profitable concert ever.
This year an incredible £30,774 was raised across the tour, the highest ever for a Project Zulu tour. The money raised from this tour will be used to build new classrooms for Mntimande and Jobstown Primary schools to help reduce overcrowding as currently there are 70+ children per class. We expect work to commence later this year and we will keep you all updated on the classroom progress across our socials.
Thank you to the fantastic host families for looking after the choir, opening their homes and making them feel so welcome! We’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed and supported us this year, we can’t wait to bring you our next choir tour in 2025!
