Principal: Ms Nyandeni
Siyawela is located in a remote area slightly south of the Madadeni Township. It caters for Grades R – Grade 7, aged 4 – 13yrs.
With approximately 800 pupils enrolled it has smaller class sizes than some of our partner schools however it has still struggled with overcrowding due to small building sizes for the younger grades. Siyawela participated in the 2018 Choir Tour; they are using funds from this tour to replace their old Grade R classrooms with larger and safer buildings for their youngest pupils.
With their funds raised from the 2016 Choir Tour the school developed their school library, which was originally almost empty but now contains shelves, books, study desks and a comfortable seating area for their pupils. Siyawela would benefit from additional books in their library to help encourage their pupils reading however they are pleased with the progress made so far.
While much of the world has been disrupted by COVID-19, an area that has faced consistent challenges globally is schools. We spoke to the Principals at Mntimande and Siyawela Primary school to see how they coped and adapted to the day-to-day changes brought by the pandemic.
